About the Section

Where Ambition Meets Rigour

The Secondary Section at Vidya Niketan (Classes IX–X) is a dedicated two-year programme culminating in the prestigious ICSE Board Examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi.

These critical two years are structured to build academic depth, examination readiness, and analytical thinking. Students choose from a wide range of subjects — Group I compulsory, Group II electives, and Group III practicals — allowing for personalised academic pathways suited to their future goals in science, commerce, or the humanities.

Our experienced subject specialists, rigorous internal assessment schedule, and a culture of discipline and excellence ensure that every Vidya Niketan student walks into the ICSE examination hall fully prepared and confident.

Grade Structure

Two Years of ICSE Preparation

Classes IX and X together form the ICSE programme at Vidya Niketan — each year building progressively on the last.

Class Nine — Foundation Year Minimum age: 14 years 6 months

Class IX is the foundation year of the ICSE cycle. Students consolidate their subject choices, adapt to the rigour of board-pattern study, and are introduced to the style of ICSE examinations through internal tests and half-yearly assessments.

Class Ten — Board Examination Year Minimum age: 15 years 6 months

Class X is the culminating ICSE Board year. Intensive revision, mock examinations, past paper practice, and subject-wise mentoring ensure every student is exam-ready. Internal assessment marks (20%) from practical work count towards the final ICSE score.

The ICSE curriculum is organised into three groups. Students must take all Group I subjects, select one from Group II, and one from Group III.

Examination Calendar

Internal Assessment & Exam Cycle

A structured cycle of assessments through the academic year keeps students consistently exam-ready and allows teachers to track and support every student's progress.

Unit Test 1

July – August. Covers first portion of syllabus. Identifies early learning gaps for remedial support.

Half-Yearly

September – October. Full board-pattern paper. Marks reported in progress report to parents.

Unit Test 2

November – December. Second portion. Practical assessments begin for Class X internal marks.

Pre-Board & Finals

January – February. Full mock ICSE exam for Class X. Annual exams for Class IX in March.
